I'm jealous of the claimed 12-hour battery life, but the D430 just seemed like a much better compromise as far as a machine I could beat up every day.0 Card Reader, ACR38 Smart Card Reader Driver, USB Smart Card Reader, and many more programs Keep business moving with our mobile card reader. I'm spoiled by always having a biz-class laptop and in comparison it just feels like a toy. I considered the Asus UL that's linked above, but I managed to find one locally to play around with first. (Granted, I've got no idea how much wear is on my current battery pack, a new one may yield significantly longer run times). Unfortunately the standard 6 cell battery only gets me about 2.5-3 hours, but I've got a 9-cell on order that should push that up to 4.5-5 hours. The ULV Core 2 Duo is significantly faster than any atom and it even came with the spare media-base in case I need to us a cd/dvd drive for something. It cost me $345 after shipping costs for a computer that looks brand new and still has ~550 days left on Dell's CompleteCare on-site warranty. I actually just bought a Latitude D430 on eBay just for this purpose (it replaced an MSI Wind). I'm open to any and all suggestions that you all may have. LAPTOPS WITH SMART CARD READER PORTABLE
Especially since most current models are more portable than my 700m. So, I'm looking for a decent 12" of 13" laptop that will fit the bill of portability. I can also get an Express Card type reader if I can find a laptop with that available. I have a PCMCIA reader in my 700m, and it is much more convenient than lugging around an extra USB reader. I'm a govt employee, and I'm required to use a SmartCard to access some sites and my webmail.

I can type much faster on the slightly larger 700m keyboard (also not quite full size) Although the keyboard on the 1000HE is very nice. I really miss those extra 2" in screen size Although I love the portablility, I find myself constantly going back to my aging Dell 700m as my portable computer.
